Overview
This nearly half-size sharpening stone has two sharpening surfaces.
The 180 grit surface will restore a dull edge or remove nicks while the 1000 grit surface will leave a medium polished edge with a bit of “tooth.”
For axes, you may want to proceed to a higher grit stone in the 4000+ grit range, depending on what you’re cutting.
The size of this stone and the fact that it has two grits makes it very convenient and easy to use.
It is easier to hold than a full size sharpening stone, yet its thickness keeps your fingers away from the cutting edge of your tool.
I find the rectangular shape easier to hold than a puck-style sharpener, and it’s a water stone, so no oil is required.
It should be soaked in water for 5-10 minutes before use, and it’s nice to splash the stone periodically during use.
It can be hung to dry using the attached cord.

My Take
I like this stone and it gets used regularly to touch up my sickles and axes.
It cuts well and builds up a sharpening slurry quickly (especially the 1000 grit side).
As I mentioned, I love how easy it is to hold the stone, and how the thickness keeps my fingers away from the cutting edge.
It’s a worthwhile addition to your sharpening kit.

Using a sharpening tool..
Thanks for this video…I remember my grandfather having a stone sharpening wheel..now I know why there was a container for water on it! I have black sharpening stones…I take it I should soak these as you did in this video. Finally after 60+ years…I know how to use these stones! Time to take them out of storage!
