The SHW upright hoe is designed for small to medium sized weeds in cultivated ground.

Though at first glance it might look like a standard chopping hoe, the angle of the head is designed to lay nearly flat against the ground, as you stand fully upright, with thumbs up, pulling the tool back toward you slicing weeds.  The motion is much like  sweeping the floor.

This weeder is easy on the body because you don’t need to stoop or chop.  Also, because you only weed in one direction, it’s quite easy to safely use up to the base of plants.   This is our favorite style of weeder for small weeds in veggie beds, and it comes in two handle lengths, 65″ and 75″.

Note:  Though this hoe is designed to slice weeds, it also does a pretty good job of chopping out medium sized weeds that are too stubborn to slice.  This is because the blade is fairly thick and wide enough from front to back.  To chop, simply reverse your hands into the more common, thumbs down grip.
